Who was the Red Baron?

The Red Baron was Ritmeister Manfred von Richthofen. He was Germans most succesfull fighterpilot when he got to fly Fokkers new masterpiece on August 28th 1917. He already had score of 59 victories and with this new acquisition  his score soon became 80. On April 21st 1918 he was shot down during an airbattle with Sopwith Camels. It never became clear whether he was shot from the ground or by a Sopwith Camel.

When Von Richthofen was buried in France, a British airplane dropped a garland which had written on it "for a brave and worthy opponent".

The DR.I of Von Richthofen was completely red, hence his nickname "The Red Baron".
